Learning differences & dyslexia: Phoenix schools and the ESA

On ADE's 2025-26 (ADE estimate; the 2026-27 chart isn't posted yet) chart, specific learning disability, speech-language impairment, other health impairment and mild intellectual disability share a range of about $8,423 to $12,001 a year, somewhat above the base $7,105–$10,540. A 504 plan alone is funded close to the base range.

Phoenix-area learning-differences schools include long-running programs such as New Way Academy in Phoenix and The Jones-Gordon School in Paradise Valley, along with one-to-one and small-group academies with campuses in several suburbs. Ask each how it teaches reading and math and how it measures progress.

If your child has never been evaluated, request one in writing from your district first. The paperwork that comes out of it decides the funding category, and it also helps the new school plan instruction.

What the account can pay for

• Tuition at a qualified learning-differences school
• Tutoring from a qualified provider, such as structured-literacy tutoring
• Educational therapies from licensed providers
• Norm-referenced testing and evaluations

Therapies, aides and devices are allowed ESA purchases when they meet ADE's rules and the provider is licensed or accredited. Read the full list →
